How to put photos on your computer, not lose them again - Arizona Daily Star(ArticleNews)

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Afterward, I moved the folder of photos from the camera to my computer’s “My Computer” folder for storage, then emptied the camera card by dragging the contents into the PC’s Recycle Bin. It’s a directory of the storage devices that are available on your PC, including the hard disk, the DVD drive, any network drives and any external storage devices such as flash drives. But the Recycle Bin doesn’t retain files that were deleted from external flash memory devices, such as your camera’s memory card. In the future, you should copy your photos to actual storage folders, such “My Documents” or “My Pictures” in Windows XP, or “Pictures” in Windows Vista or Windows 7. read more

County officials hold safety meeting amid church arson - Daily Sentinel- ArticleNews

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Staff photo by Trent Jacobs Nacogodches County Sheriff Thomas Kerss stands in prayer with nearly 60 representatives from law enforcement, volunteer fire departments and more than three dozen churches in the county at Monday eveningās meeting on how those churches can best protect themselves from arson in the wake of those that occurred around the Tyler area since the beginning of the year. And while many of the fires occurred around 100 miles to the north of Nacogdoches County, and with two men connected to those crimes in custody, local officials told a group of about 60 church pastors, volunteer firemen and other church representatives that their greatest concern now is copycat arsonists. But with more than 100 rural churches in the county, half of whhich have no phone or mailing address, Kerss said it’s impossible for all the county’s law enforcement agencies to watch over every church. Before the meeting adjourned, Kerss took questions and told each church to make plans for other kinds of situations which could include a church shooting and to call the sheriff’s office in the case of encountering overbearing panhandlers, which has been occurring with some frequency for the past few months. read more

(ArticleNews) Case from Reading protects glasses thought to have been Teddy … - Reading Eagle

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

The obvious question is, why would Teddy Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, have been fitted for glasses by eye doctors in Reading? OK, how do we know these are Teddy Roosevelt’s glasses and not just anyone’s thrown in a Rhode and Craig case? One possibility, Glen Mueller suggests, is that Teddy broke his trademark pince-nez glasses - the kind that squeeze onto the bridge of the nose - while campaigning and had them repaired in Reading. While Rhode opened an office in Reading in 1903, Reading city directories show, Craig did not join him until 1934. But if they are Teddy’s glasses, they didn’t come from Rhode and Craig in Reading. NM proposal to expand online gov't information - Burlington County Times- ArticleNews

Friday, February 19th, 2010

New Mexicans could track spending by state agencies under a proposal that would create a Web portal for access to government information. The legislation requires the Department of Information Technology to establish a Web site by July 2011 to provide a wide range of information about state government, including the operating budgets of agencies, their monthly expenditures, revenue collections from fees and taxes, a summary of state investment accounts and a directory of government jobs and their salaries. However, the bill won’t require the listing of government jobs to disclose the names of workers in those positions although that’s a public record under state law. The legislation will create a central online location for state government and will offer links to agencies and the services they provide. Information on government spending initially will be limited to executive branch agencies because that is readily available through the state’s central finance system. That means New Mexicans won’t be able use the proposed Web site to look at expenditures by public schools, colleges and universities, which account for nearly 60 percent of state spending. read more
