In Connecticut, a female teacher has recently been convicted for exposing her classroom to pornography. It seems her classroom computer was infected with internet pornography pop-ups that some of her students saw. She faces up to forty years in jail, barring an appeal. The case is plagued with controversy as there are reports of the judge falling asleep during the trial and the jurors speaking of the case outside the courtroom, both considered misconduct. The defense has called for a mistrial.
The defense team also claims that the school did not provide the appropriate amount of spyware protection for the teacher's computer and thus is to blame for the incident. The school admitted that they let the content filtering software expire but refuse to take responsibility. Her attorney states that she was redirected to these sites from a hairstyling web site and evidence supports this.
Regardless of who is to blame, the obvious need for spyware protection is clear. Many people are not in full control of their computers and this can be very dangerous indeed, especially in light of this recent case. Being exposed to internet pornography can costs jobs, money and ruin lives.
Spyware is any kind of computer program that is put on an unwary person's computer without their knowledge. Computers that fall victim to this can become infected with viruses and even be taken hostage by hackers demanding money to remove the spyware for a fee. Many people are victims without even knowing it. Sometimes it can be too late even if you find it.
What are symptoms of spyware? Pop-ups are the main culprit, usually springing up out of nowhere. When these pop-ups, ranging from pornography sites to anti-aging creams, are closed, other programs are installed on the computer without ever being agreed to by the user. These pop-up windows become increasingly annoying and frequent. They get worse and worse.
Another telltale sign is a change of personal settings like having a different homepage for no obvious reason. Or the normal search page has been altered and the user cannot change any of these settings back to the way they were. This lack of control is often frustrating.
One of the biggest complaints about spyware being installed on a computer is the lessening of efficiency in the processing systems of the computer. Spyware is not designed to be friendly, it is designed to interfere with the normal functioning of the computer. Having all these extra, unwanted programs causes a sluggish performance and sometimes a full-blown systems crash.
If you do not desire to fall victim to spyware or adware, get some spyware protection fast and stop the infection before it even begins. The initial cost of spyware protection is a mere pittance in comparison to the headaches and total cost of falling prey to the practice.
